Course Report

The Ledges sits at an elevation of 1,582 feet, making it one of the highest golf courses in Alabama and offering dramatic views over the Tennessee Valley.

About

The Ledges in Huntsville is a private club perched atop the city’s highest mountain, offering panoramic views and a championship-level layout. Designed by Dr. Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry, the course opened in 2000 and provides a mountain parkland experience with dramatic elevation changes, strategic bunkering, and outstanding playing conditions.

Caddie Tip

Pay close attention to the elevation changes throughout the round—club selection can change drastically even on shorter holes. The wind can be unpredictable atop the mountain, so always check flag positions and consider swirling gusts when planning your approach shots.

The Main Challenge

The course’s greatest challenge comes from its significant elevation changes and demanding approach shots, particularly in variable winds. Narrow fairways lined by natural rock outcroppings and well-placed bunkers require precise tee and iron play to post a good score.

The Good

Golfers rave about the stunning elevation changes, pristine conditions, and panoramic views from nearly every hole. The experience of playing above the city with dramatic backdrops, excellent shot variety, and a welcoming, scenic clubhouse make The Ledges memorable for members and guests alike.

The Not So Good

Some players wish for increased tee availability, as the club’s popularity can lead to limited access during prime hours. Others note that the mountain setting means the course can be especially challenging during high winds or after heavy rain, affecting pace and playability.
