Course Report

The Legacy Golf Club was developed by the Manning family as their second public course in central Iowa and prides itself on customer service and bentgrass playing surfaces.

About

The Legacy Golf Club, just south of Des Moines, is an 18-hole public course opened in 2002. Designed and built by Matt Manning and family, the course features manicured bentgrass fairways, tees, and greens, plus lush Kentucky bluegrass roughs. Players enjoy a full practice facility, a modern clubhouse, GPS carts, and a reputation for top-tier service and excellent playing conditions.

Caddie Tip

Manage your distance control on approaches—bentgrass greens can run fast, and many greens are well guarded by bunkers. Stay below the hole when possible and take time to study undulations on and around the greens for the best chance at birdie or par.

The Main Challenge

The challenge at The Legacy comes from its well-bunkered greens and strategic water hazards that require well-planned shots. The finishing holes, especially on the back nine, reward precision and penalize aggressive play that misses the target.

The Good

Golfers love the consistent course conditioning, especially the bentgrass greens and fairways. The Legacy is known for being well-maintained and offering a challenging layout for all skill levels, making it a favorite in the region. Players appreciate the overall value and friendly atmosphere at this public facility.

The Not So Good

While praised for conditioning, players occasionally note slow pace of play during peak times and express a desire for continued pace improvements. Some wish the course had fewer forced carries off the tee to make it even more approachable for higher handicaps.
