Course Report
Two pairs of holes on The Paintbrush share double greens, including one with a tree growing on the putting surface, evoking the Himalayas at St Andrews.
About
Designed by Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry, The Paintbrush at The Pulpit Club is a celebrated links-style course set across 164 acres in the Caledon Hills. With fescue fairways, bold bunkering, and unique double greens, it mirrors classic Scottish links architecture. Rated among Canada's Top 10, the course provides an adventurous, rugged, and highly strategic golf experience that draws enthusiasts from across North America.
Caddie Tip
The Paintbrush rewards local knowledge—aim to keep drives out of the deep fescue and play conservatively on blind shots. On the double greens, favor approach shots that run rather than fly; wind is often a factor, so check direction before teeing off each hole.
The Main Challenge
The greatest challenge at The Paintbrush is managing approach shots in windy conditions and negotiating the bold bunkers and deep fescue. Precision is especially critical on blind holes and the double greens, rewarding thoughtful club selection and strategic course management over raw power.
The Good
Golfers praise The Paintbrush for its authentic links feel—rolling fairways, creatively designed bunkers, and adventurous routing. The course's playability changes significantly with wind and offers a rugged, pure golf experience that captivates enthusiasts and rewards bold strategic choices.
The Not So Good
Players frequently mention that the exposed nature of the site makes rounds highly susceptible to wind, occasionally leading to extremely tough scoring conditions. Some members would like improved signage and additional shelter from the elements, especially during storms or heat waves.
Signature Hole:
#
13
The signature hole is the par 3 13th, stretching 226 yards with out-of-bounds right and a deep gorge protecting a large, two-tiered green. It demands precision even for skilled players, creating one of the round's most memorable and challenging moments.
Clubhouse
The Paintbrush clubhouse offers a large, open lounge area with comfortable seating and a roaring fireplace. It caters primarily to golfers, focusing on post-round relaxation, drinks, and socializing rather than elaborate dining or spa facilities.
Practice Facilities
Practice facilities include a full outdoor range and short game area, designed to accommodate links-style preparation. Chipping, bunker practice, and putting greens allow golfers to prepare for the fast fescue turf and undulating greens.
