Course Report
The Rim Golf Club is set amid the largest contiguous stand of Ponderosa pine in North America and sits just above 5,000 feet, offering true four-season golf in Arizona.
About
The Rim Golf Club, designed by Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish in 1999, offers an extraordinary mountain golf experience amid the Ponderosa pines of Arizona’s Mogollon Rim Country. This private 18-hole course features dramatic elevation changes, stunning forest vistas, and a routing that flows through rock outcroppings and lush native vegetation, delivering year-round play in a tranquil, high-elevation setting.
Caddie Tip
Positioning off the tee is critical due to the natural doglegs and elevation changes. Aim for the wider landing areas guarded by pines, and respect the prevailing wind directions when approaching greens, as subtle breezes can influence ball flight more at altitude. Play conservatively on the front nine to set up a strong finish.
The Main Challenge
The Rim’s primary challenge lies in its dramatic elevation changes and narrow, pine-lined fairways. Strategic bunkering and water hazards come into play on several holes, demanding accuracy both off the tee and with approach shots. The undulating greens require careful reads, making putting a true test even for experienced players.
The Good
Golfers consistently praise The Rim Golf Club for its breathtaking mountain scenery, winding fairways through towering Ponderosa pines, and the course’s tranquil setting. The design’s blend of elevation changes and natural features make each hole a visual treat and a unique challenge, creating a memorable and immersive experience that stands out in Arizona.
The Not So Good
Some guests note that pace of play can slow during busy periods, especially for those trying to walk the course due to significant elevation changes. Others wish for expanded practice area space, as the popularity of the course can mean crowded conditions on the range during peak times.
Signature Hole:
#
18
The 18th hole is a memorable par 4 that finishes with a panoramic view of the Mogollon Rim, framed by Ponderosa pines and natural rock outcroppings. The strategic design and elevation changes challenge players on their approach, providing an unforgettable conclusion to the round amid the area’s iconic high-country scenery.
Clubhouse
The clubhouse features casual and fine dining, a welcoming bar, a pro shop stocked with top equipment and apparel, locker rooms, and social spaces. Additional amenities include a pool, fitness center with classes, and access to hiking and walking trails for active members and guests.
Practice Facilities
The course offers a full driving range, pitching and chipping areas, and a large putting green.
