Course Report
The course was carved directly through New Hampshire's forested and rocky uplands, offering the feeling of complete isolation on each hole.
About
The Shattuck Golf Club in Jaffrey, New Hampshire, was designed by Brian Silva and opened in 1991. This 18-hole, par-72 public course offers dramatic vistas of Mount Monadnock, tight fairways, and required target golf through rocky New England terrain. Known for its stunning scenery and challenging play, the course is both beautiful and demanding.
Caddie Tip
Take more club and play for safe positions rather than going for every green. Many holes penalize risk rather than reward it, so lay up when possible. Keep driver in the bag on most holes, and focus on accuracy. Buy extra balls, as even good shots can get punished by tight fairways and challenging rough near wetlands and rocks.
The Main Challenge
Shattuck’s greatest challenge lies in its severely tight, wooded fairways and forced carries over wetlands or rocky gulches. Many holes play as 'target golf,' requiring precise club selection and placement rather than distance. Any missed shot risks lost balls and high scores.
The Good
Golfers rave about the stunning, unspoiled New Hampshire scenery visible from nearly every hole, with views of Mount Monadnock in the background. The course feels isolated and tranquil, with each hole carved into its own pocket of woods, providing both a serene atmosphere and a unique challenge for every round.
The Not So Good
Pace of play is a frequent complaint, primarily due to cart path-only rules and challenging terrain that make rounds noticeably longer. Drainage and wet spots in lower-lying fairways can also affect playability after rainy weather, and wayward tee shots are often unrecoverable.

Practice Facilities
A small driving range and short game area provide basic practice opportunities before your round. The putting green is representative of the course’s greens: quick and undulating.
