Course Report

The course construction required moving nearly four million cubic yards of material and includes more than 50 acres of constructed wetlands that provide wildlife habitat and environmental benefits.

About

The Tributary, formerly known as Huntsman Springs, is a private David McLay Kidd design nestled in the Teton Valley. The course features 18 holes weaving through over 50 acres of wetlands, expansive fairways, and fescue native areas. Renowned for its strategic bunkering, dramatic views of the Tetons, and exceptional bentgrass greens, it's widely considered one of Kidd’s finest works and consistently ranks among Idaho’s top private courses.

Caddie Tip

Pay careful attention to approach shot angles and pin locations, as the greens are large, undulated, and extremely fast, especially in peak summer. Play for the safe side on doglegs and avoid chasing pins that are tucked behind deep bunkers or native fescue.

The Main Challenge

The most challenging aspect is the combination of length and strategic hazards: forced carries over wetlands, undulating bentgrass greens, and deep, visually intimidating bunkers demand both length and precision. Uneven lies from contoured fairways test approaches, while swirling Teton winds add another layer of complexity.

The Good

Golfers rave about the strategic challenge posed by the sweeping fairways, dramatic bunkering, and especially the views of the Tetons and Big Hole Mountains, which frame nearly every shot. The consistently excellent conditioning and fast, true-rolling greens are also major highlights according to those fortunate enough to play the course.

The Not So Good

Some players find the native fescue and wetlands can be unforgiving, eating up stray shots and adding to lost ball counts. Others would like to see more forgiveness off the tee, especially for higher handicappers, and some bunker complexes remain demanding for those not prepared.
