About

Turtle Point Yacht & Country Club is a premier private club on Wilson Lake in Killen, Alabama. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. in 1961, the 18-hole layout is recognized for its challenging play, natural topography, and superior conditioning. The club features not only golf but also a marina, tennis, aquatics, and a vibrant social scene.

Caddie Tip

The course rewards strategic play and positioning—keep drives in the fairway and approach shots below the hole to avoid slick, sloping greens. Knowledge of green contours will save strokes, especially on longer par 4s and 5s. Pay attention to wind coming off Wilson Lake, especially on exposed holes.

The Main Challenge

The toughest challenge at Turtle Point comes from its demanding approach shots and fast, sloping greens designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. The course requires accuracy off the tee and well-placed iron shots. Water, mature trees, and deep bunkers make recovery difficult if you miss fairways or greens.

The Good

Golfers love the beautiful setting along Wilson Lake, the challenging Robert Trent Jones, Sr. design with classic greens, and the club's welcoming atmosphere. Many praise the well-maintained course conditions and the diversity of holes requiring thoughtful shot-making, making for memorable rounds.

The Not So Good

Some members and guests wish for greater variety in pace between holes, as back-to-back long or difficult holes can be exhausting. Occasional critiques highlight that the course can get busy during peak times, and that roughs bordering trees can be punishing with few recovery options.
