About
Turtle Point Yacht & Country Club is a premier private club on Wilson Lake in Killen, Alabama. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. in 1961, the 18-hole layout is recognized for its challenging play, natural topography, and superior conditioning. The club features not only golf but also a marina, tennis, aquatics, and a vibrant social scene.
Caddie Tip
The course rewards strategic play and positioning—keep drives in the fairway and approach shots below the hole to avoid slick, sloping greens. Knowledge of green contours will save strokes, especially on longer par 4s and 5s. Pay attention to wind coming off Wilson Lake, especially on exposed holes.
The Main Challenge
The toughest challenge at Turtle Point comes from its demanding approach shots and fast, sloping greens designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. The course requires accuracy off the tee and well-placed iron shots. Water, mature trees, and deep bunkers make recovery difficult if you miss fairways or greens.
The Good
Golfers love the beautiful setting along Wilson Lake, the challenging Robert Trent Jones, Sr. design with classic greens, and the club's welcoming atmosphere. Many praise the well-maintained course conditions and the diversity of holes requiring thoughtful shot-making, making for memorable rounds.
The Not So Good
Some members and guests wish for greater variety in pace between holes, as back-to-back long or difficult holes can be exhausting. Occasional critiques highlight that the course can get busy during peak times, and that roughs bordering trees can be punishing with few recovery options.
Signature Hole:
#
18
The signature 18th hole at Turtle Point Golf Course is a picturesque par 4 that plays along the Tennessee River. The tee shot is directed toward the river, with the fairway bending left across an inlet. The approach leads to a green set right at the water’s edge, offering a dramatic and scenic finish.
Clubhouse
The clubhouse boasts multiple dining rooms, men’s and ladies’ lounges, two bars, meeting spaces, and outdoor verandas. Members enjoy casual and formal dining with seasonal menus, special events, and beautiful views over Wilson Lake. Locker rooms, pro shop, and social gathering spaces round out the experience.
Practice Facilities
Expect a full range of practice amenities: a well-maintained driving range, expansive putting green, and dedicated short-game and chipping areas. Professional instruction is available for all skill levels, creating a complete training environment.
