Course Report

The course regularly hosts major collegiate and amateur championships, including NCAA Division I golf tournaments and Kentucky Opens.

About

University of Louisville Golf Club, designed by Spencer Holt and opened in 2001, is a private, championship-level course known for its challenging layout, excellent bentgrass surfaces, and top-tier practice facilities. Serving as home to the University of Louisville golf teams, it has hosted prominent state and NCAA tournaments, attracting skilled golfers from across the region.

Caddie Tip

Keep tee shots in play and favor the safer side of fairways, as the course punishes aggressive lines with thick rough and tactically placed bunkers. Approach shots should be played below the hole on undulating greens, which can get quick in the summer months.

The Main Challenge

With a high slope and rating, golfers face risk-reward holes, tight strategic doglegs, and undulating greens that place a premium on accuracy and course management. The finishing holes, especially the 18th, require nerves and skill to post a solid score.

The Good

Golfers consistently praise the course’s greens and overall conditioning, as well as the comprehensive training facilities and the club’s atmosphere. The hosting of collegiate and state events adds a feeling of prestige, while the closing stretch provides a memorable challenge and rewards strategic play.

The Not So Good

Some players wish for more flexible public access since the course is private, and others mention that fairway bunkers and water hazards can be penal and at times overly challenging for higher handicappers. Faster weekend rounds would also enhance the overall member experience.

The 18th hole is a demanding par 4 that finishes directly in front of the clubhouse, with a water hazard guarding approach shots and bunkers challenging tee placement. Precision is key, as the green is well-protected, making this a thrilling and picturesque way to end your round.

Clubhouse

Members enjoy Louie’s Grille, a full-service restaurant, locker rooms, a pool, lounge patios with sunset views, and multiple event spaces. The atmosphere is welcoming but retains a private-club exclusivity, with well-maintained and modern amenities throughout.

Practice Facilities
