Course Report

Wicker Point Golf Club is the only Coore & Crenshaw design in Alabama, and several holes directly border the shores of Lake Martin, providing dramatic water views unique in the Southeast.

About

Wicker Point Golf Club, designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, is a private 18-hole course set along Lake Martin in Alabama. Opened in 2023, it features lakefront holes, rolling pine plantations, and a luxury clubhouse, creating a serene and strategic golfing retreat.

Caddie Tip

Use conservative strategy on the lakeside back nine, where shifting winds and water hazards demand calculated club selection. Greens tend to run firm and true, so approach shots should favor the safer side. Play for the center of large greens and take note of subtle slopes that direct putts toward the water.

The Main Challenge

The back nine, especially along the lake, presents the toughest test with narrow fairways bordered by water and dense pine woods. Wind often factors into club selection, and aggressive play can be punished by well-placed bunkers and risk-reward approach shots.

The Good

Golfers are most impressed by the lakefront holes on the back nine, where dramatic water views and natural topography create a memorable and tranquil experience. The seamless integration of course architecture with the landscape allows for a challenging but enjoyable round, especially in the varied pin placements and shot options.

The Not So Good

As a new course, some players mention the youth of the turf and landscaping, particularly in rough and outlying areas, as needing more time to fully mature. Additional on-course signage, rest stops, and expanded practice targets could further enhance the member experience.
