Course Report

Wine Valley is consistently ranked as one of the top public courses in Washington and attracts players from around the Pacific Northwest for its fast, firm playing conditions and championship-caliber layout.

About

Wine Valley Golf Club, designed by Dan Hixson, is an acclaimed public course set among rolling hills just west of Walla Walla. Opened in 2009, the course plays over firm, wide fairways with strategic bunkering and expansive views of the Blue Mountains, delivering an engaging links-inspired experience.

Caddie Tip

The firm, fast fairways reward running shots, but beware of the ever-present wind—take extra club on exposed holes, especially as approaches tend to release more than you expect. Avoid missing greens on the short side, as up-and-downs can be treacherous due to tightly mown runoffs.

The Main Challenge

Persistent high winds turn several holes, especially those playing uphill or directly into the breeze, into serious tests of control and creativity. The firm, open fairways and complex green surrounds create demanding approach shots and punish wayward misses.

The Good

Golfers love the sweeping views of the Blue Mountains and the blend of strategic, risk-reward holes that suit a variety of playing styles. Many highlight the fast, true greens and the quality of the design as reasons they return year after year.

The Not So Good

Some guests note that summer conditions can become very firm, bordering on hard, and the lack of mature trees or shade makes outings on hot afternoons quite taxing. A few express that green fee value doesn’t always match maintenance late in the season.
