Course Report

In summer, you can tee off as late as midnight and still finish in daylight thanks to the midnight sun.

About

Anchorage Golf Course, designed by Bill Newcomb, is Alaska's premier public 18-hole course set on 320 acres in the foothills of the Chugach Mountains. The course offers 6,600 yards of challenging, rolling fairways and undulating greens, with epic views of Denali and local wildlife sightings. The course features a full grass driving range and significant practice facilities.

Caddie Tip

Focus on club selection for approach shots as elevation changes and swirling winds from the surrounding mountains can play tricks, especially on the back nine. Greens are well protected and undulating, so favor approaches below the hole for easier putts. Look out for wildlife and enjoy the pace of play – remember, patience is rewarded.

The Main Challenge

The undulating greens, frequent elevation changes, and strategic bunkering make accuracy off the tee and thoughtful club selection essential. The course frequently plays longer and more difficult due to shifting mountain winds, and unpredictable bounces can challenge both approach shots and chipping around the greens.

The Good

Golfers are amazed by the incredible mountain vistas, sightings of Alaska wildlife—including moose and fox—and the unforgettable experience of playing under the midnight sun. The views from almost every hole, particularly of Denali on clear days, and the course's relaxed, welcoming atmosphere make every round memorable.

The Not So Good

Players occasionally note that the fairways and greens, while well maintained for the region, can be inconsistent early or late in the season due to Alaska’s weather. Drainage issues have been reported after heavy rain and some golfers would appreciate enhanced on-course signage or directional markings.
