Course Report
The South Course is modeled after the architectural style of Macdonald and Raynor, featuring template holes and design concepts rarely found in modern courses.
About
The South Course at Arcadia Bluffs, opened in 2018 and designed by Dana Fry and Jason Straka, is a tribute to classic early American course architecture. Inspired by the works of Macdonald and Raynor, it features squared-off tees, massive greens, bold bunkers, and firm, fast ground. Its wide fairways and strategic design create a unique challenge for golfers.
Caddie Tip
Proper strategy is crucial at Arcadia Bluffs South—use the wide fairways to set up angles for approach shots and pay special attention to the contouring and sections of the massive greens. Trust local caddie reads for the tricky putts, and avoid the deep, ribbon-like bunkers whenever possible.
The Main Challenge
The biggest challenge at the South Course is mastering the massive, heavily contoured greens and managing angles of approach. Large, flat-bottomed bunkers and wide, firm fairways demand strategic play off the tee. Wind is also a consistent factor and influences club selection considerably throughout the round.
The Good
Golfers rave about the South Course’s bold greens, ground-game options, and template hole variety. Its challenge lies in the minimal forced carries and openness, making it playable for all skill levels, while the unique bunkering and strategic design keep repeat rounds interesting.
The Not So Good
Some golfers mention three-putting as a frequent occurrence due to the large, complex greens and dramatic contours. A few wish for improved directional signage and more wind protection in exposed stretches. Others note that fast, firm conditions can accentuate the challenge for higher handicaps.
Signature Hole:
#
8
The par 3 8th hole showcases a distinct squared-off green, deep strategic bunkering, and dramatic contours inspired by 'template' holes from the golden age of golf architecture. The visual intimidation created by its bold surrounds and the demand for precise iron play make it a defining moment on the South Course.
Clubhouse
The South Course clubhouse offers casual dining with panoramic course views, a well-stocked pro shop, spacious locker rooms, and access to shuttle service connecting both Arcadia Bluffs properties. Friendly staff and an informal, welcoming atmosphere enhance the experience.
Practice Facilities
Arcadia Bluffs South features full practice areas, including a turf driving range, chipping green with bunkers, and expansive putting greens designed to replicate course conditions. The facility encourages warmup and fine-tuning short game skills for navigating undulating green complexes.
