Course Report

Bad Ragaz has hosted the Swiss Seniors Open since 1997 and is the only course in Switzerland awarded 5* Superior by the Golf Course Owners Association.

About

Bad Ragaz Golf Club is a historic Donald Harradine parkland course set beside the Rhine Valley. Known for superb maintenance and picturesque mountain surroundings, the club has hosted the Swiss Seniors Open and awards for course upkeep. It features gentle terrain, strategic water hazards, and a clubhouse with acclaimed dining.

Caddie Tip

Aim for careful club selection and conservative lines on holes guarded by water hazards; prevailing winds from the mountains can subtly affect shots throughout the round. Steer clear of the hazards and favor the left side off the tee on the longer par 4s to leave a better approach angle, especially when mountain views distract focus.

The Main Challenge

The course's primary challenge comes from water hazards that test precision on approach shots and several well-defended greens. Small strategic bunkers and undulating putting surfaces require calm nerves, especially on closing holes. Moderate winds add a subtle layer of complexity, making good course management essential to score well.

The Good

Golfers consistently praise the course for its immaculate conditioning, beautiful park-like setting, and the stunning alpine scenery throughout the round. The relaxed pace combined with tranquil surroundings make playing here feel like a retreat. The atmosphere is enhanced by the modern clubhouse and excellent restaurant, making post-round experiences equally memorable.

The Not So Good

Some guests note that the routing is largely flat and lacks dramatic elevation changes, which can feel repetitive over a full round. Busy weekends, especially during events, can make securing prime tee times difficult. Occasional maintenance or member-only play restricts access for visiting golfers at peak times.
