Course Report
Bayside Golf Club was founded and is still operated by a local family and the course design team of Axland and Proctor also worked on the renowned Sand Hills Golf Club.
About
Bayside Golf Club is a links-style 18-hole public course located on Lake McConaughy near Brule, Nebraska. Designed by Dan Axland and Dave Proctor, the course is known for its challenging layout, scenic views, and wide open fairways. The course offers a fun yet strategic test and is open to all golfers from April through October.
Caddie Tip
Due to frequent winds from nearby Lake McConaughy and the openness of the layout, play conservatively—avoid risky approaches that bring native grass or bunkers into play. Prioritize landing your approaches below the hole for easier uphill putts, especially on harder and faster greens common in summer.
The Main Challenge
The course’s greatest challenge is the combination of wind exposure from Lake McConaughy and firm, fast fairways. Many holes reward precision and intelligent course management, and players who stray wide may find difficult lies in native grasses or undulating terrain.
The Good
Golfers appreciate Bayside Golf Club for its dramatic vistas over Lake McConaughy and the excitement of its wide, rolling fairways. The welcoming staff, well-kept course conditions, and unique hole variety have built a loyal following—especially among those seeking a different Nebraska golf experience.
The Not So Good
Some visitors mention that the facilities and amenities are more basic compared to urban or resort courses. More investments in clubhouse renovations, on-course signage, or cart paths would enhance the overall guest experience, especially for first-time visitors.
