Course Report

Big Creek has hosted multiple USGA qualifiers and Arkansas State championships, solidifying its status as one of the top competitive venues in the region.

About

Big Creek Golf & Country Club, designed by Thomas E. Clark of Ault, Clark & Associates and opened in 2000, is the premier course in north central Arkansas. The 18-hole layout features five tee boxes, modern amenities, and scenic play winding through the rolling Ozark landscape. Host to several USGA and Arkansas State events, it is open for public play by reservation.

Caddie Tip

Favor the left side of fairways to avoid natural hazards, and take enough club on approach shots—greens are subtly contoured and well-bunkered. The course rewards strategic positioning over brute force. Pay attention to changing wind in the valleys and read putts carefully, as subtle breaks can surprise newcomers.

The Main Challenge

Big Creek’s greatest challenge lies in its demanding approach shots to well-guarded greens. Water and bunkers force accurate club selection. The undulating Ozark terrain creates sidehill lies and subtle elevation changes. Wind can swirl in the valleys, adding complexity. Par is a good score on most holes, especially during tournament setups.

The Good

Golfers appreciate the scenic Ozark setting, strong tournament pedigree, and the balance of challenge and playability throughout all 18 holes. The multi-tiered greens, immaculate fairways, and friendly staff consistently receive high marks. The setting is peaceful, making for an enjoyable, relaxed round amid beautiful surroundings.

The Not So Good

Some golfers feel that rough maintenance can be inconsistent, especially in high growth summer months. There are occasional pace-of-play issues during peak times or tournaments. Improved signage or better on-course refreshments could further enhance the overall experience for regular and visiting players.
