Course Report

Pete Dye famously remarked he only created 11 holes—'God created the other seven' along the sea. Teeth of the Dog is consistently ranked the #1 course in the Caribbean and has hosted celebrities and world-class tournaments.

About

Teeth of the Dog at Casa de Campo is Pete Dye’s Caribbean masterpiece, ranked among the world's best courses. Opened in 1971 and carved by hand from coastal rock and coral, it weaves 18 holes along rolling fairways and the dramatic Caribbean Sea. Seven holes play directly on the ocean, creating a visually spectacular and challenging round.

Caddie Tip

Many approach shots are exposed to Caribbean winds, so carefully factor breeze direction and strength on all coastal holes. Play for the center of greens on seaside holes and avoid over-committing to attacking pins tucked near the coral shoreline.

The Main Challenge

The toughest aspect of Teeth of the Dog is the wind along the ocean holes, making shorter par 3s and long par 4s both unpredictable. Narrow rolling fairways, strategic bunkering, and small greens place a premium on shot-making and accuracy throughout your round.

The Good

Most golfers rave about the dramatic oceanfront holes and the unmistakable design vision of Pete Dye. The setting is unmatched in the Caribbean, with sparkling blue water, challenging shots over coral, and an ambiance that delivers a true bucket-list golf experience.

The Not So Good

Some players note the course’s cost as a drawback, especially with high greens fees. Occasional wind can slow play and create tough conditions, and heavy play during peak times may result in minor course wear, especially near the famous seaside holes.
