Course Report

Borre Golf Club hosted the first professional golf tournament on Norwegian soil, the Karsten Ping Norwegian Challenge, in 1994, and has welcomed international professional competitions since.

About

Borre Golf Course is a scenic parkland-style course designed first by Tommy Nordström in 1991, with later renovations expanding it to a full 18 holes. Located beside Lake Borre and built on gently undulating terrain near Oslofjord, the layout blends natural beauty with strategic challenge. The club is known for hosting major professional tournaments and welcomes visitors throughout the main season.

Caddie Tip

On the opening stretch near the lake, keep tee shots tight to the fairways. Pay special attention to the prevailing wind off Lake Borre, especially on holes 5 through 7, where water hazards can catch errant shots. The course rewards strategic play and precise approaches into well-protected greens.

The Main Challenge

The greatest challenge is posed by the stretch of holes playing alongside Lake Borre, where swirling winds and plentiful water demand both creativity and discipline. Narrow entrances to small greens, and risk-reward options off the tee, place a premium on smart course management rather than just power.

The Good

Golfers praise the dramatic lakeside holes and the tranquil setting around Semb Manor House. The mix of mature trees, water views, and varied hole design creates a memorable experience, particularly in late spring and early autumn when the course is in peak condition and the surrounding landscape is especially attractive.

The Not So Good

Some visitors note that wet weather can lead to softer, slower playing conditions, particularly on the lower holes near the water. Others seek more consistent fairway maintenance and slightly faster putting surfaces, but overall feedback is positive regarding both playability and presentation.

Signature Hole:

#

5

No items found.

Hole 5 'Fergemannen' is a par 4 playing from an elevated tee with Lake Borre flanking the left side, presenting water danger throughout the drive. The approach leads to an island green with an extremely narrow entrance, demanding precision and nerve to secure par or birdie on this picturesque, challenging hole.

Clubhouse

No items found.

The clubhouse provides locker rooms, a pro shop with gear and apparel, a welcoming restaurant with local fare, and event spaces suitable for groups. The atmosphere is relaxed, with excellent service and a pleasant terrace overlooking the course.

Practice Facilities

No items found.

Borre offers a well-equipped driving range, dedicated putting and chipping greens, as well as a practice bunker. These facilities allow golfers to warm up thoroughly or work extensively on their short game and long game in preparation for their round.
