Course Report
The course is home to numerous displays and memorabilia honoring Missouri golf legend Payne Stewart within its clubhouse.
About
Branson Hills Golf Club, designed by Chuck Smith with Bobby Clampett, is a celebrated public course set in the Ozark Mountains. Known for dramatic elevation changes, natural rock outcroppings, waterfalls, and creeks, the course offers six sets of tees and honors Missouri golf legends. Frequently ranked #1 in Missouri, it stands out for its challenging play and scenic splendor.
Caddie Tip
Course management is key at Branson Hills. Play conservatively off the tee, especially on holes with rapid elevation drops, and focus on placing shots in the fairway. The greens are large with significant undulation, so careful attention to pin position and lag putting will help you avoid three-putts.
The Main Challenge
The most challenging aspect of Branson Hills is its drastic elevation changes coupled with narrow landing areas and well-protected greens. Many holes require careful club selection, especially with swirling winds in the valleys and undulating putting surfaces that test every aspect of a player’s short game.
The Good
Golfers love the bold elevation changes, exceptional views, and immaculate fairways and greens that provide an exciting, visually striking round. The blend of natural Ozark features with challenging design gives every hole a distinct character, and the friendly, well-managed clubhouse enhances the visiting experience.
The Not So Good
Some visitors note that the difficulty of play, particularly from the rough and deep bunkers, can be frustrating for higher handicappers. Others feel the course's elevated price point during peak times could be more accessible, especially compared to regional alternatives.
Signature Hole:
#
1
The par-4 1st hole at Branson Hills is often cited as the signature hole due to its breathtaking 130-foot drop from tee to green. The dramatic downhill shot frames the rolling fairway below among Ozark rock outcroppings and dense forest, offering both a memorable opener and a significant challenge as golfers judge club selection and wind direction.
Clubhouse
The modern clubhouse features the Magnolia Grille offering full-service dining, a bar with panoramic course views, spacious locker rooms, a pro shop, and a viewing area with Payne Stewart memorabilia. Private meeting spaces are also available for groups and events.
Practice Facilities
Practice facilities include a large grass driving range, free range balls for those with tee times, and a spacious practice putting green adjacent to the clubhouse. The short game area allows for pitching, chipping, and bunker practice before the round.
