Course Report

Brook Hollow is one of just a few courses in Texas designed by legendary architect A.W. Tillinghast, and its layout includes only two straight holes—the rest demand a strategic mix of draws and fades from players.

About

Brook Hollow Golf Club is an exclusive, historic Dallas course designed by A.W. Tillinghast in 1920, with revisions by Perry Maxwell, Jay Morrish, and a restoration by Coore & Crenshaw in the 1990s. The course features tight, tree-lined fairways, small, fast A-4 bentgrass greens, and a classic parkland layout revered for its shotmaking demands and impeccable year-round conditioning.

Caddie Tip

Stay below the hole on approach shots; the A-4 bentgrass greens are extremely quick and slope away on several holes. Brook Hollow’s tight doglegs favor shotmakers—use club selection and shape your tee shots to find fairways. The approach to 6 plays downhill, so judge your distance carefully to avoid spinning off the front.

The Main Challenge

The toughest aspect of Brook Hollow is its relentless demand for accuracy. Narrow, tree-lined fairways and small greens leave little margin for error. Many holes require strategically shaped shots to access fair pin positions, and the lightning-fast greens put a premium on effective lag putting and approach control.

The Good

Golfers consistently praise the impeccable course conditioning and the timeless parkland layout, which rewards precision and shotmaking. The exclusivity and low member volume allow for a relaxed pace and an atmosphere reminiscent of classic golden-age private clubs, making each round memorable for both challenge and charm.

The Not So Good

Members occasionally note that the surrounding neighborhood is less appealing, and the entry is nondescript due to security walls. Additionally, the course’s modest length and seclusion can limit the experience for those seeking dramatic championship settings or wide-open vistas.

Signature Hole:

#

6

No items found.

The par-4 6th hole, playing over 400 yards, is Brook Hollow’s signature—a dogleg requiring accuracy off the tee and a precise approach to a challenging downhill green guarded by bunkers. This hole is famed for its beauty and the demanding approach, often described as one of Dallas’s most memorable par 4s.

Clubhouse

No items found.

The sprawling ranch-style clubhouse features finely appointed locker rooms, private dining, lounges, card rooms, and event spaces accented by Southern elegance. Personalized service, excellent cuisine, and a traditional ambiance make it a favored gathering place for members outside of golf.

Practice Facilities

No items found.

Brook Hollow offers an extensive driving range, a manicured putting green, and a dedicated short-game area. Instruction is available for all skill levels, and the facilities match high private club standards, providing an ideal environment for warm-ups or dedicated practice.
