Course Report

Bulle Rock is named after the first thoroughbred racehorse ever brought to America and is the only Maryland course to have hosted a major professional golf championship—the LPGA Championship five years in a row.

About

Bulle Rock is a Pete Dye-designed public course in Havre de Grace, Maryland. Consistently ranked as Maryland’s best public track, it features dramatic elevation changes, strategic bunkering, and fast greens over 235 acres near the Chesapeake Bay. Host to 5 straight LPGA Championships, it offers a demanding but fair test respected by golfers of all abilities.

Caddie Tip

Play for position over power, especially off the tee. Fairways are generous but guarded by Pete Dye’s signature deep bunkers and fescue. Club selection on approach shots is crucial as greens are well-protected and often fast. Respect prevailing winds, especially on holes facing the Chesapeake Bay, and keep approach shots below the hole.

The Main Challenge

The greatest challenge at Bulle Rock is its tough tee-to-green design: Pete Dye’s signature penal bunkers, deep rough, and water hazards require accuracy and smart risk management. Fast, contoured greens demand precise approach shots and confident putting. The finishing stretch is especially challenging under tournament conditions.

The Good

Golfers consistently praise the course’s outstanding design, the dramatic and strategic variety of holes, and its superb conditions. Many note that the experience of playing a true championship venue—complete with breathtaking Chesapeake Bay views and rolling terrain—gives every round a special sense of occasion.

The Not So Good

Some golfers have noted the first-cut and native fescue roughs can be particularly punishing, slowing the pace of play and challenging higher handicappers. Accessibility for walkers is also limited due to long distances and steep elevation changes, making carts necessary for most.

Signature Hole:

#

18

No items found.

The 18th hole is a challenging par 4 with a dramatic, downhill tee shot framed by water down the left and a fairway bunker right. The approach to a well-protected green makes for a memorable finish, demanding precision and a cool head, especially with the clubhouse and Chesapeake Bay views as a backdrop.

Clubhouse

No items found.

Bulle Rock offers a renovated clubhouse with a gourmet pub, banquet and meeting facilities, full locker rooms, a well-stocked pro shop, and Silks Restaurant. The service is friendly and attentive, creating a welcoming atmosphere both before and after the round.

Practice Facilities

No items found.

The course features a full driving range, large putting green, and short game area. The practice range is a good distance from the first tee, and the short game complex is spacious, letting golfers warm up every shot shape and distance before the round.
