Course Report

Canterbury Woods is built on 35 acres of bentgrass fairways and is often praised for having no blind shots, making every approach straightforward but still strategic and scenic.

About

Canterbury Woods Country Club is a public 18-hole course set amid the hills of New Hampshire, designed by Ross Forbes in 2003. It features 4 sets of tees stretching up to 6,600 yards, bentgrass fairways and greens, and a layout that weaves naturally with the rolling landscape. The course is known for its strategic design, beautiful scenery, and exceptional playing conditions.

Caddie Tip

Shots must be positioned well, as the undulating greens reward careful approach play. Keep approach shots below the hole when possible—putting is much easier uphill on these fast bentgrass greens. Avoid missing greens short, and use the contours for chipping whenever possible. Read the subtle breaks closely.

The Main Challenge

The primary challenge at Canterbury Woods is navigating the subtle elevation changes and contoured greens. Approach shots require precise distance control, especially on long par 4s. The bentgrass greens are slick and undulating, putting a premium on placement and putting skills.

The Good

Golfers consistently highlight the panoramic views of the surrounding hills and the tranquil setting as the standout feature. The course routing takes full advantage of elevation changes, delivering memorable vistas on several holes and offering a peaceful retreat from urban life.

The Not So Good

Players most commonly mention that early spring play can include softer-than-ideal turf and occasional cart restrictions. Some also note that pace of play can slow on busy weekends, particularly in the afternoons.
