Course Report

Chattanooga Golf & Country Club is one of the oldest golf clubs in Tennessee and remains on its original site—an uncommon distinction among clubs in the region.

About

Established in 1896 on the banks of the Tennessee River, Chattanooga Golf & Country Club features a Donald Ross layout remodeled by Bill Bergin in 2005. The course boasts a classic parkland feel, challenging elevation changes, and renowned conditions, making it one of the premier private clubs in Tennessee.

Caddie Tip

Keep approach shots below the hole as many greens slope severely from back to front. Take particular care on the finishing stretch, where swirling river winds demand careful club selection. Accurate tee shots are critical—fairways are tree-lined and punish misses.

The Main Challenge

The four long par 4s over 450 yards provide a stern test, especially when the wind is up along the river. Narrow fairways, strategic bunkering, and subtle greens require thoughtful play and reward course management over sheer length.

The Good

Golfers rave about the classic routing along the Tennessee River, the tranquil setting in the Riverview neighborhood, and the exceptional greens that are fast and true. The well-preserved Donald Ross characteristics, combined with recent updates, give the course a storied yet contemporary feel appreciated by members.

The Not So Good

Some members wish for further improvements in pace of play during busy summer months and believe additional tree management could improve sunlight and turf health on certain holes.
