Course Report

The course features 61 bunkers, several small caves, springs, and gorges—making it one of the most photographed public courses in Kentucky.

About

Dale Hollow Lake State Resort Park Golf Course, designed by Brian Ault and opened in 2003, is one of Kentucky’s top public courses. With significant elevation changes, dramatic rock outcroppings, and panoramic mountain vistas, it’s known for both its challenge and natural beauty. The 18-hole layout features bentgrass tees, zoysia fairways, and large, undulating bentgrass greens.

Caddie Tip

Pay close attention to elevation changes throughout the round. Use an extra club on uphill approaches and beware of club selection on downhill holes—distance control is critical for scoring well. Many greens have multiple tiers and break more than they appear.

The Main Challenge

Frequent elevation changes impose tough club selection choices, especially with swirling winds on exposed holes. The large, slopey greens and numerous strategically placed bunkers demand thoughtful approaches. Natural hazards—like rock outcroppings and sudden terrain shifts—test course management and nerve all round long.

The Good

Golfers rave about the dramatic scenery, from panoramic mountain vistas to unique rock outcroppings and natural springs visible throughout the course. The variety in elevation, combined with beautifully conditioned Zoysia fairways and receptive undulating greens, creates a memorable experience that’s both photogenic and rewarding.

The Not So Good

Some players note that the challenging terrain can make walking difficult, and pace of play occasionally slows on busy weekends due to long distances between holes. During rain or wet seasons, carts may be restricted, impacting accessibility for those who prefer not to walk significant elevation changes.

Signature Hole:

#

18

No items found.

The 18th hole is a par 4 that plays dramatically downhill with stunning views over the surrounding woodland and lake. Framed by zoysia fairways and strategic bunkering, this closing hole demands a precise tee shot and a well-judged approach to a contoured green nestled among scenic rock outcroppings. Often praised as a memorable and challenging finish.

Clubhouse

No items found.

A spacious clubhouse opened in 2007 offers a pro shop, locker rooms, dining area, and patio with course views. The lodge at the resort provides food, lodging, and relaxation options, making it easy for visitors to stay and play for multiple days.

Practice Facilities

No items found.

The course features a modern practice range with three large Zoysia tees, two target greens, a practice fairway bunker, and two full practice greens. These facilities offer plenty of space for warming up and honing your game before play.
