Course Report
Dormie Club is the only original Coore & Crenshaw course in North Carolina and features over 110 feet of elevation change—rare for the Sandhills region.
About
Dormie Club, a private Coore & Crenshaw design, is nestled on 310 acres in North Carolina’s Sandhills. Blending seamlessly with natural pine forests and rolling terrain, the club is known for its strategic layout, dramatic elevation changes, and minimalist links styling. Recognized as one of the top courses in the state, it offers a tranquil, pure golf experience for members and guests.
Caddie Tip
Prioritize accuracy off the tee to give yourself the best angles into Dormie Club’s large, undulating greens. Take advantage of the forgiving fairways but beware of the natural sandy waste areas and wire grass lining most holes. Play to the smart side, especially on the many greens with significant run-offs, and don’t underestimate the subtle breaks.
The Main Challenge
Dormie Club’s main test lies in its undulating, sandy terrain and fast, sloping greens. Natural sandy waste areas and wiregrass flank many holes, demanding both accuracy and course management. The minimalist design leaves little margin for error around the greens, and the subtle elevation changes keep shot selection critical throughout the round.
The Good
Golfers love Dormie Club’s immersive natural landscape, minimalist design, and the freedom from man-made distractions. The routing flows beautifully through rolling, pine-studded terrain, while elevation changes and open sightlines provide exceptional variety. Members often praise the strategic choices required on nearly every hole and the relaxing, secluded atmosphere.
The Not So Good
Some visitors find the rustic, sand-based paths and lack of traditional paved cartways a drawback, especially in wet weather. Accessibility could be an issue for some, and rapid firming of greens during certain seasons may challenge those unaccustomed to the speed and contour. Clubhouse amenities are newer but have room for further personalization.
Signature Hole:
#
8
The par-3 8th hole at Dormie Club is a standout: a reverse Redan stretching up to 241 yards. This hole demands a strategic tee shot to a large, sloping green angled away from the player, with native areas and bunkers threatening any miscue. Its striking natural sandscape and architectural brilliance make it the club's defining challenge.
Clubhouse
The newly built clubhouse features a welcoming lounge, upscale locker rooms, a boutique pro shop, and fine dining. Onsite cottages are available for overnight stays, and members enjoy seamless hospitality, all-inclusive food and drink, and private spaces for relaxation and gatherings.
Practice Facilities
Dormie Club offers a large grass driving range, short game area, and well-manicured putting green, accommodating full warm-ups or extended practice sessions. The range is set in tranquil surroundings, creating an ideal atmosphere to hone your game.
