Course Report

Firekeeper is the first course designed by a full-blooded Native American, PGA Tour winner Notah Begay III, and has no residential development on-site.

About

Firekeeper Golf Course, designed by Notah Begay III and Jeff Brauer, is a nationally recognized 18-hole championship resort layout with bentgrass greens, tees, and fairways. Located on Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation land, it has won awards as Kansas's top public access course, stretching up to 7,500 yards and offering a memorable, natural, and accessible experience for all golfers.

Caddie Tip

Pay close attention to the wind, especially coming home on the back nine. Fairways are generous but fescue rough is very penal, and the large greens demand smart approach placement. Opt for safer shots off the tee until you learn where the real trouble lurks—play for the centers and respect the natural slopes.

The Main Challenge

Firekeeper’s toughest challenge is navigating its wind-swept, fescue-lined fairways and undulating bentgrass greens. The course progressively toughens on the back nine, with holes that require both length and careful planning, especially as prairie winds commonly pick up in the afternoon. The finishing stretch demands disciplined tee shots and precise approaches.

The Good

Golfers love Firekeeper for its blend of scenic beauty and strategic, memorable holes. With no residential interruption, play flows seamlessly through native prairie and rolling woodland. The friendly staff and pristine conditions make for a welcoming, laid-back atmosphere that both serious golfers and casual players can enjoy.

The Not So Good

During peak weekend times, some visitors mention the pace of play can slow down. A few golfers also note native rough areas can be penal, making finding errant tee shots time-consuming. Improved advance communication on pace and local rules would enhance the experience for first-timers.
