Course Report

Golf de Moliets is nicknamed 'the most Irish course in Aquitaine' by Irish journalists, thanks to its true links-style holes on natural oceanfront dunes.

About

Set along the Landes coast between the Atlantic Ocean and pine forests, Golf de Moliets was designed by acclaimed architect Robert Trent Jones Sr in 1986. The course features 27 holes, including an 18-hole championship layout (Ocean) combining links-style dunes and forest parkland. The layout is known for its challenging greens, variety, and scenic beauty.

Caddie Tip

Holes 13-16 are exposed to strong coastal winds; club selection is critical and playing low shots often helps. On forested holes, focus on positioning off the tee, as narrow approaches and well-placed bunkers demand precision all round.

The Main Challenge

The toughest part of Golf de Moliets is navigating the transition from sheltered forest holes to exposed links-style dunes. Sudden wind shifts, strategic bunkering, and fast, narrow greens require constant focus. Course management and adaptability are essential for a good score, especially on the stunning back nine.

The Good

Golfers consistently rave about the dramatic oceanfront holes set on natural sand dunes, with breathtaking Atlantic views and pure links character. The seamless integration of forest, dunes, and coast makes for a truly memorable round and a highlight of golfing in southwest France.

The Not So Good

Golfers often note long walks between some holes can be tiring, and occasional slow play during peak holiday periods is mentioned. Maintenance standards can drop during stormy spells, so consistency of conditioning is sometimes a concern.
