Course Report

Golf Gerre Losone was named Swiss Golf Course of the Year in 2014 and is one of the few courses in Switzerland to receive GEO Environmental Certification for eco-sustainable management.

About

Golf Gerre Losone, designed by Peter Harradine and opened in 2001, lies in the Ticino valley near Lake Maggiore. This 18-hole, par-72 parkland course features Mediterranean and alpine landscaping with palm, olive, and chestnut trees, as well as several water hazards and mounding. The course is known for its challenging, strategic layout and hosts several national and international tournaments, including events on the Ladies European Tour.

Caddie Tip

Keep drives straight—the course is lined with trees, and water hazards come into play on many holes. On the back nine, club selection is vital, especially as the holes narrow and strategic bunkering increases. The greens are fast and often sloped, favoring approaches left below the hole. Approach the 18th carefully, favoring the right side off the tee to avoid trouble left and set up a clear second shot.

The Main Challenge

Golf Gerre Losone is especially demanding off the tee, with several tight, tree-lined fairways and strategically placed water hazards. The need for accuracy and club selection increases as many holes are guarded by mounding, rocks, and fast greens. The closing stretch, particularly holes 16–18, offer a formidable finish that tests nerves and shotmaking ability.

The Good

Golfers praise the Mediterranean character, lush landscaping, and serene valley setting surrounded by mountains and chestnut forests. The layout offers both playability and challenge, with varied hole designs, beautiful water features, and a tranquil yet invigorating atmosphere. The fast greens, quality conditions, and welcoming clubhouse add significant appeal for visiting players.

The Not So Good

Common complaints center on occasional slow play, particularly during peak tourism season, and holes that can feel repetitive on the flatter sections. Some players note that course marshaling could be improved for smoother pace, and that bunkers and narrow landing areas increase the challenge for higher handicaps.
