Course Report
Indian Canyon has been selected by Golf Digest as one of the top 25 public courses in the United States and has hosted the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship three times.
About
Indian Canyon Golf Course is a historic public layout designed by H. Chandler Egan in 1930 and opened in 1935. Built along dramatic canyon walls overlooking Spokane, the par-72 course stretches 6,255 yards and features undulating, well-bunkered greens. Known for its challenging shot values and scenic pine-studded setting, this municipal gem has hosted multiple major USGA amateur events.
Caddie Tip
Take extra care with club selection off the tee, as many holes play uphill or downhill due to the significant elevation changes. Greens are heavily contoured and quick—read putts from multiple angles and aim for the center of greens rather than tucked pins.
The Main Challenge
The combination of steep elevation changes, tight landing areas, and undulating greens means wayward shots are penalized and course management is essential. Approach shots demand precision, especially on sloped greens surrounded by strategic bunkers.
The Good
Most golfers rave about the course's unique layout atop canyon walls, providing spectacular views of Spokane and a memorable variety of holes. The mix of elevation changes, tree-lined fairways, and quick, challenging greens make for a satisfying round.
The Not So Good
While valued for its historic design, some golfers note that bunker conditions and cart paths can be inconsistent. Drainage after heavy rain can be problematic, and pace of play can be slow during busy times.
