Course Report
Minnehaha Country Club has hosted the PGA TOUR Champions Sanford International, bringing legends of golf to Sioux Falls and raising the club’s national profile.
About
Minnehaha Country Club, established in 1905 and designed by Langford & Moreau, is Sioux Falls’ premier private golf course. The par-71 course utilizes the Great Plains’ gentle hills and mature trees, providing a traditional parkland feel and a classic club atmosphere. Recent renovations have enhanced playing conditions and helped the club secure events like the Sanford International.
Caddie Tip
Play for the middle of the greens, as some surrounds repel wayward approaches and firm conditions can result in extra rollout. Manage your tee shots carefully on the tighter back nine, where tree-lined fairways and doglegs punish over-aggression. The greens tend to break less than they appear from above the hole.
The Main Challenge
The narrow, tree-lined fairways, strategic bunkering, and contoured greens make the course especially demanding in firm, windy conditions. Back nine holes require controlled drives and precise approaches, while quick, sloped greens add to the scoring challenge.
The Good
Members praise the championship-tested layout and the tranquil vibe across the property. The combination of rolling, tree-lined fairways, excellent greens, and thoughtful design elements offers a challenge without being punishing. The recently renovated clubhouse and attentive staff add to the first-rate club experience.
The Not So Good
Some members and guests seek even faster green speeds and more tee time access during tournament weeks. There are occasional complaints about limited practice area space when busy and that rough can be thick during competitive events, raising difficulty for average players.
Signature Hole:
#
18
The 18th at Minnehaha Country Club, a par 4, caps off the round with a classic finishing hole framed by mature trees and rolling prairie. Dramatic elevation shifts and well-placed bunkers demand an accurate approach to a contoured green just steps from the clubhouse balcony.
Clubhouse
The recently renovated clubhouse features upscale locker rooms, multiple dining venues, a lively bar, banquet facilities, and event spaces. Members also enjoy a pool, fitness center, tennis courts, and well-equipped golf shop, plus a large balcony overlooking the 18th green.
Practice Facilities
A full-length driving range, short-game area, and dedicated putting green are available. Facilities are modern but can get busy during member and tournament play. Instruction is available from PGA professionals, and members enjoy well-maintained target greens and chipping areas.
