Course Report

Money Hill sits on over 6,000 acres once owned and maintained by the Goodyear family as a tung oil plantation and family campground before its transformation into a golf and country club community.

About

Money Hill Golf & Country Club is a private 18-hole layout nestled in the hills near Abita Springs, Louisiana, designed by Ron Garl. The course features challenging play through rolling terrain, picturesque lakes, and lush woodlands, offering a serene and upscale experience less than an hour from New Orleans. The club includes full country club amenities, nature trails, and a spring-fed lake.

Caddie Tip

Conservatively play for the center of the greens to avoid Money Hill’s elaborate bunkers and water hazards. Approach shots often demand precision, especially on the longer par 4s, and prudent club selection helps account for subtle winds and undulating terrain. Par 5s offer reward for long hitters but punish errant shots with natural hazards.

The Main Challenge

The challenge at Money Hill is defined by its water hazards, dense tree lines, and strategically placed bunkers. Narrow landing areas and the tendency for swirling breezes require precise shot placement, while undulating greens demand deft putting. Accuracy off the tee is at a premium on many holes, with thick rough and hazards penalizing stray drives.

The Good

Golfers rave about Money Hill’s tranquil setting and lush scenery, citing the peaceful, natural environment as a primary draw. The course layout takes full advantage of elevation changes, water features, and tree-lined fairways, while the club boasts welcoming service and exceptional amenities.

The Not So Good

The main critique concerns high humidity and drainage issues during wet seasons, leading to occasionally soggy fairways. Some would like to see enhanced practice area turf and more updated on-course signage to further elevate the upscale feel expected of a top private club.
