Course Report
Montcalm sits on over 350 acres and features panoramic views of New Hampshire’s Upper Valley—one of the region’s most tranquil golf escapes.
About
Montcalm Golf Club, designed by George Sargent, is nestled in Enfield, New Hampshire's Upper Valley. Opened in 2005, this private club is renowned for its tranquil mountain surroundings, panoramic views, and meticulous bentgrass conditioning. Members enjoy a recently upgraded practice facility, including natural grass hitting stations, large putting green, and challenging bunkers—making Montcalm a top private course in New England.
Caddie Tip
Montcalm rewards careful management over brute force. Focus on fairway positioning, as tree-lined holes can be punishing off the tee. Bentgrass greens feature subtle undulations—study your putts carefully, and always leave your approach below the hole for the best scoring chances.
The Main Challenge
Montcalm’s toughest challenge is its combination of undulating terrain and tree-lined fairways. Narrow landing zones and well-protected greens demand precise strategy and execution, especially on longer par 4s and 5s. The mountain setting impacts shot selection, with elevation changes and subtle breaks on the greens testing golfers throughout the round.
The Good
Golfers love Montcalm’s tranquility, spectacular mountain scenery, and immaculately conditioned bentgrass fairways and greens. The peaceful setting, with expansive views from numerous holes, provides a sense of escape rarely matched in New England—making each round as calming as it is rewarding.
The Not So Good
Some golfers have noted that certain areas of rough can be penal and that the tree-lined corridors penalize errant shots harshly; a few wish for additional forward tee options or slightly wider landing areas to enhance playability for higher handicaps.
Signature Hole:
#
18
The 18th hole at Montcalm is a dramatic par 4 that finishes in full view of the clubhouse, framed by natural hardwood forest and rolling hills. It demands an accurate tee shot to a fairway flanked by trees, followed by a precise approach to a well-guarded green. The hole is both scenic and strategic, offering a memorable and challenging conclusion to the round.
Clubhouse
Montcalm’s clubhouse offers locker rooms, a fully stocked pro shop, lounge areas, and casual dining; members enjoy social events and panoramic views from the clubhouse patio, complemented by an outdoor pavilion perfect for gatherings and post-round relaxation.
Practice Facilities
The club’s recently renovated practice area includes a driving range with 40 natural grass hitting stations, 20 Turf Hound mats, a large bentgrass putting and chipping green, and well-groomed bunkers—ideal for honing all aspects of the game before heading to the first tee.
