Course Report

Paa-Ko Ridge sits at about 6,500 feet above sea level, giving players added distance on their shots and unique mountain views.

About

Paa-Ko Ridge Golf Club, designed by Ken Dye, is set on the east side of the Sandia Mountains at 6,500 feet elevation. This public course features 27 scenic, award-winning holes with dramatic elevation changes, panoramic vistas, and bentgrass greens. Routinely ranked as New Mexico’s top course, it offers a challenging desert mountain golf experience within a short drive from Albuquerque.

Caddie Tip

Club selection is critical on the par-3s as the elevation can be deceptive and winds can swirl unexpectedly. Stay below the hole on approach shots to the quick, sloping bentgrass greens, and play safe off the tee; trouble lurks just off the fairways.

The Main Challenge

Paa-Ko Ridge’s real test comes from its lengthy par 3s, fast undulating greens, and penal hazards just off the fairways. Elevation changes frequently influence club selection, and dense native rough or desert washes can quickly lead to trouble for errant shots.

The Good

Golfers rave about the dramatic mountain scenery and elevation changes that offer breathtaking views on nearly every hole. The pristine bentgrass greens and immaculate fairways deliver a high-end playing experience. The strategic layout keeps the round engaging and memorable, with a distinct sense of seclusion and tranquility unique to its setting.

The Not So Good

The high green fees for non-residents can limit how often even local golfers play, making it less accessible. Some visitors note the challenging walks and distances between holes make it less friendly for walking players, and the course can become crowded during peak periods, slightly impacting pace of play.
