Course Report
The course won Golf Digest’s “Outstanding Design” award in 2007 for its masterful routing through elevation and natural terrain.
About
Persimmon Ridge Golf Club, designed by Arthur Hills and Drew Rogers in 1988, is renowned for its challenging layout, natural setting, and strategic use of elevation changes. Stretching over 7,100 yards, this private club blends wooded areas, creeks, lakes, and dramatic contours, offering a memorable experience for golfers of all skill levels. Recognized for outstanding design and tough playability.
Caddie Tip
Focus on keeping the ball in play off the tee, as the course features a blend of narrow, tree-lined fairways and challenging forced carries over water or ravines. Approach shots are often to elevated or well-protected greens—be precise with your distance control and pay close attention to pin locations to avoid tough up-and-downs.
The Main Challenge
Persimmon Ridge’s toughest test comes from its tight fairways, significant elevation shifts, and numerous risk-reward water features. Players must strategically manage aggressive lines and club selection, especially on long par 4s and over water carries. Misses are penalized, particularly around the highly contoured greens protected by bunkers or run-offs.
The Good
Golfers love the blend of natural beauty and the diversity of holes at Persimmon Ridge. The layout uses elevation, water, and mature woodlands to provide both visual interest and strategic challenge on every hole. The setting feels secluded and scenic, providing a tranquil, immersive golf experience that’s both fair and formidable.
The Not So Good
At times, the course’s challenge can verge on punishing for higher-handicap players, with forced carries and tough rough. Addressing pace of play on busy days and further expanding tee options for shorter hitters would provide a more inclusive experience, particularly on certain long par 4s and 5s.
Signature Hole:
#

With natural water hazards lurking and strategically placed bunkers guarding the green, golfers face a true test of nerve and precision to close out their round on this elevated, scenic home hole.
Clubhouse
The clubhouse features locker rooms, a well-stocked pro shop, full-service dining, banquet and event spaces, and relaxed lounges. Members benefit from social events, private meeting rooms, and attentive hospitality, providing a comfortable atmosphere before and after the round.
Practice Facilities
The club offers a full suite of practice facilities, including a spacious driving range, short game area with pitching and chipping greens, practice bunkers, and a large putting green. Instruction is available from PGA professionals, ensuring golfers can sharpen every aspect of their game.
