Course Report
Peterhof Golf Club is the first full-length 18-hole golf course built within the city limits of St. Petersburg, opening only in 2017.
About
Peterhof Golf Club, designed by Greg Norman and Steve Forrest, opened in 2017 as the first full-length course in St. Petersburg. Routed near the Neva River, it features 18 holes with strategic water hazards, a modern clubhouse, and good practice facilities. The mostly flat, 'links-style' design includes a lively membership and hosts both locals and tourists.
Caddie Tip
Many holes demand thoughtful play around the extensive water hazards, especially the opening hole and stretch from 13 to 16. Conservative play is smart on the tough par 5 opener, but be bold on the short par 3 16th—aim center green to avoid big scores. The prevailing wind often affects approach shots.
The Main Challenge
Peterhof’s greatest challenge is the series of water hazards that come into play on several holes, especially the menacing lakes on 1, 13, 14, and the signature 16th. Narrow targets on approach shots and changing winds make club selection crucial. The risk-reward element is present throughout the back nine.
The Good
Golfers love Peterhof's strategic use of water features and the strong, modern design influenced by Greg Norman. The course offers scenic, peaceful surroundings with generous fairways and varied holes that reward both accuracy and creativity. Its proximity to historic palaces and vibrant city attractions makes it a unique Russian golf experience.
The Not So Good
Some visitors note that the predominantly flat layout limits its visual drama, and occasional erratic conditioning early in the season can affect play. More mature landscaping and expanded practice facilities would add to the overall experience, as would enhanced English signage for international guests.
Signature Hole:
#
16
The 16th at Peterhof Golf Club is a picturesque par 3 playing to a peninsula green entirely flanked by water and protected by four bunkers. It is both beautiful and challenging, demanding precise club selection as any overhit or misdirected shot is heavily punished.
Clubhouse
The modern clubhouse has locker rooms for men and women, a pro shop, large restaurant and bar with seating for 200, and a children’s playground. Friendly staff and tuition services round out a welcoming environment, popular for events and social gatherings.
Practice Facilities
Peterhof offers a full driving range with at least 15 tees, a putting green, chipping green, and practice bunker. The Golf Academy caters to beginners and skilled players. Facilities are modern and accessible, though the previous plan's larger range area was reduced with residential development.
