Course Report

Playa Grande Golf & Ocean Club boasts more oceanfront holes (ten) than any other course in the Caribbean, earning it the nickname 'Pebble Beach of the Caribbean.'

About

Set along the dramatic cliffs of the Dominican Republic's north coast, Playa Grande Golf & Ocean Club was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and renovated by Rees Jones in 2015. With ten holes along the ocean and numerous cliff-top vistas, the course is renowned for its spectacular views, strategic routing, and luxurious resort experience for guests.

Caddie Tip

Caddies are mandatory and well-versed. Trust your caddie on wind direction, especially on the cliffside holes where gusts are unpredictable. Pay attention to their advice for approach shots on the ocean holes; many greens slope subtly toward the sea, and reading putts can be tricky due to grain and wind.

The Main Challenge

The toughest challenge is dealing with the wind and elevation changes on the cliffside holes, particularly during blustery afternoons. Blind shots, strategic bunkering, and tricky approaches to firm greens make club selection and precise execution essential, especially coming home on the final oceanfront stretch.

The Good

Golfers rave about the constant proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, especially the sequence of cliff-side holes that deliver incredible vistas and thrilling shot values. The overall tranquility, low crowds, luxurious amenities, and the resort’s attentive service create one of the Caribbean’s most memorable golf experiences.

The Not So Good

Some players wish for more variety on the inland holes, noting that a few away from the coast feel less dramatic. Minor critiques mention occasional slow play during busy resort seasons and want more consistency in bunker conditioning in wetter months.
