About
Royal Adelaide Golf Club, established in 1892 and shaped by Dr. Alister MacKenzie, is one of Australia’s premier links-style courses. Located in Seaton, it combines sand dunes, fir trees, and fast, undulating greens. The layout provides both challenging tournament golf and enjoyment for club players, with a storied history hosting national and international championships.
Caddie Tip
Pay close attention to changing winds, which can shift directions quickly and strongly on several holes. Favor conservative tee shots on doglegs like 14 and attack flags only if you're confident with distance control. Approaches to raised greens are often best played flighted low, running the ball up, especially in summer conditions.
The Main Challenge
The toughest challenge at Royal Adelaide is negotiating the firm, fast greens in windy conditions, especially on the exposed holes among the dunes. Many holes demand precision off the tee and careful navigation of penal bunkering. The back nine, with its mix of long, testing holes and deceptive short shots, regularly tests even the best players.
The Good
Golfers rave about the strategic variety offered by Royal Adelaide’s design, the blend of open dunes and tree-lined corridors, and the superb greens that reward bold putting and ingenuity. The club’s rich tournament history and the uniquely Australian feel make every round memorable.
The Not So Good
Visitor feedback sometimes notes that some green surrounds and bunkers can suffer from dryness in peak midsummer conditions. Some also find parts of the back nine less aesthetically inspiring, with the train line reducing natural tranquility on a handful of holes. Tee time access for guests can be limited.

The 14th hole, a par 4 stretching to 482 yards, is often regarded as one of Alister MacKenzie's finest. This dogleg right features a small plateau landing area ringed by bunkers, followed by an approach through a corridor of pines to an elevated, heavily protected green—a memorable and testing highlight.
Clubhouse
The clubhouse features historic interiors, a members’ lounge, restaurant, locker rooms, and function spaces with views over the course. Dining options include casual meals and fine dining, and there is a well-stocked pro shop as well as meeting spaces.
Practice Facilities
Royal Adelaide offers a full-length driving range, a dedicated short game area with bunkers and varied lies, and two large practice putting greens. Members and guests have access to coaching, equipment fitting, and warm-up areas before play.
