About

Salt Lake Country Club is a historic, private 18-hole course in Salt Lake City, established in 1899. The current layout, designed by Willie Watson and Harold Lamb, sits at the base of the Wasatch Mountains and boasts scenic views, tree-lined fairways, and A-4 Bentgrass greens. The course underwent major renovations in 2006 by John Harbottle, refining both aesthetics and challenge.

Caddie Tip

The course’s tree-lined fairways and elevation changes require thoughtful club selection and course management. On the signature 10th hole, favor the right side of the green to avoid the deep bunkers left, and remember that downhill shots play shorter than you think—use at least one less club.

The Main Challenge

The course is most demanding off the tee, with tight fairways lined by mature trees and subtle elevation shifts. Approach shots require precision to small, elevated Bentgrass greens often well-guarded by bunkers. The back nine, particularly holes along a stream, tests shotmaking and composure.

The Good

Golfers praise Salt Lake Country Club most for its combination of classic parkland architecture and dramatic mountain scenery. The tranquil setting, mature trees, and panoramic vistas make rounds here memorable, while the routing delivers strong variety and keeps players engaged from start to finish.

The Not So Good

The club’s biggest challenge is drainage and soft spots after heavy mountain runoff or spring melt, sometimes leading to inconsistent fairway firmness. Some players also note the course’s exclusivity, as limited member access precludes many local golfers from enjoying this historic layout.

Signature Hole:

#

10

No items found.

The 10th hole is a dramatic 254-yard par 3 that plays steeply downhill from a bluff about 75–100 feet above the green. Large bunkers guard both sides of the green, demanding both length and accuracy. The elevation drop and panoramic mountain backdrop make this an unforgettable and visually striking par 3.

Clubhouse

No items found.

The clubhouse, renovated to evoke its original 1924 grandeur, includes fine and casual dining, locker rooms, banquet facilities, and lounge areas. Members can expect attentive service, excellent cuisine, and panoramic views of the course and mountains from the verandas.

Salt Lake Country Club offers a comprehensive practice area, including a full driving range, short game area, and putting greens. Ample space and well-maintained turf allow members to fine-tune every aspect of their game before heading out on the course.
