Course Report
Settlers Bay offers golf hover boards for rent, adding a unique twist to the round and showcasing its forward-thinking amenities for adventurous golfers.
About
Settlers Bay Golf Course is a scenic 18-hole public course designed in 1975, located west of Wasilla, Alaska. Known for its mountain and inlet views, it features well-groomed fairways and greens, and is nestled in Alaska's only residential golf community. The course offers a tranquil yet challenging experience, with practice facilities and a popular onsite restaurant.
Caddie Tip
Focus on accuracy from the tee, especially on the tree-lined front nine. Approach shots should favor the safer side of greens, as most are small and can be slippery. The 18th requires a conservative strategy: keep your drive in the fairway and aim to land the approach below the hole to control rollout.
The Main Challenge
The toughest test is accuracy off the tee, particularly through the tightly wooded front nine. The greens, though relatively flat, are small and require precise approaches. The notorious 18th hole amplifies the challenge with its length, uphill profile, and a demanding green that rewards only the most disciplined shots.
The Good
Golfers love the stunning views of the Chugach Mountains and Knik Arm, combined with tranquil wildlife sightings on nearly every hole. The friendly, knowledgeable staff and the welcoming restaurant provide a memorable Alaskan experience that brings players back season after season.
The Not So Good
Golfers sometimes note that wet conditions can linger after rain and the course’s maintenance schedule can occasionally disrupt pace of play. Expanding drainage and optimizing turf upkeep during peak season would enhance conditions and provide an even smoother experience.
Signature Hole:
#
18
The 18th at Settlers Bay is a long, narrow, uphill par 4 widely regarded as one of the toughest finishing holes in Alaska. Its fairway is tight and lined by trees, leading to a small green that slopes away from incoming shots. Holding this green in two shots requires precision and is a memorable challenge for all who play.
Clubhouse
The Albatross Restaurant features an elevated deck with panoramic mountain and inlet views, upscale pub food with local ingredients, and a robust craft beer selection. The clubhouse also offers a golf shop, event spaces, and locker rooms. Fireside seating and live music enhance the post-round atmosphere.
Practice Facilities
Settlers Bay offers a driving range, putting and chipping areas, and lessons with a teaching pro. The facilities are well-maintained and accessible, providing ample space for warm-up or game improvement before or after your round.
