Course Report

The course features a rock quarry that serves as both a striking natural hazard and a nod to the region’s history, making several holes instantly memorable.

About

Sheshan International Golf Club is Shanghai’s premier private championship venue, designed by Robin Nelson and Neil Haworth. Opened in 2004, it features dramatic elevation changes, a strategic layout, and world-class conditions. The course has hosted multiple WGC-HSBC Champions events, attracting global golf superstars and earning a reputation as one of Asia’s finest golf destinations.

Caddie Tip

Keep approaches below the hole, especially on multi-tiered greens where putting from above can be treacherous. On the back nine, swirling winds and elevation changes make club selection critical—trust yardages and favor conservative lines to avoid hazards, especially around the quarry on 16 and 17.

The Main Challenge

The toughest part of Sheshan’s layout is managing strategic risk versus reward shots, especially on holes shaped by elevation changes and water hazards. The finishing holes are particularly demanding, with the 16th and 17th integrating quarry edges and water. Smart navigation and precise shotmaking are crucial throughout the round.

The Good

Golfers consistently praise Sheshan’s conditioning and world-class service. The variety of holes, outstanding bunkering, lush tree-lined fairways, and drama of playing around the transformed rock quarry all contribute to a memorable experience—especially the challenge and thrill of the tournament-tested finishing stretch.

The Not So Good

Some golfers wish for more member access and slightly lower guest green fees, as opportunities to play are limited for non-members. Play can slow during tournament build-outs or guest-heavy periods. Greens can be fast and difficult for infrequent visitors, making pace a minor concern at times.

Signature Hole:

#

16

No items found.

The par-5 16th hole incorporates Sheshan’s iconic rock quarry, requiring a precise tee shot to avoid trouble. The approach is dramatically framed by steep stone walls and water lurking along the left, demanding strategic decision-making, especially for those attempting the green in two. It’s a thrilling, visually unforgettable golf hole.

Clubhouse

The clubhouse is luxurious, offering upscale locker rooms, private lounges, formal and casual dining overlooking the course, extensive wine selection, and spa services. Pro shop is well-stocked with top international brands. The Tuscan-inspired architecture provides an elegant and relaxing retreat for members and guests.
