Course Report
This course has hosted multiple high-level tournaments, including USGA US Open Sectional Qualifiers and numerous Missouri State Championships.
About
The Lewis & Clark Course at the Country Club of St. Albans, designed by Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish, opened in 1992. It is a challenging, par-72 layout that uses dramatic terrain, rolling hills, creeks, and stunning wooded vistas to create a memorable and strategic parkland-style golf experience, regularly hosting top amateur events.
Caddie Tip
Conservatively plan your approaches, as narrow fairways and well-protected greens leave little margin for error. Take time to study the elevation changes before playing, as many holes play longer or shorter depending on wind and lie. Club selection is crucial, especially on the back nine.
The Main Challenge
The Lewis & Clark Course demands accuracy and thoughtful course management, especially on holes with tight driving areas and forced carries over natural terrain and creeks. Elevation changes increase the challenge, and the high slope rating ensures even skilled players are tested throughout.
The Good
Golfers praise the routing across dramatic wooded terrain and elevation changes that provide exceptional strategy and unforgettable views. The variety and strong collection of holes, especially the challenging finishing stretch, offer a quality test and standout memories for those who play.
The Not So Good
The course can sometimes play very firm and fast, which accentuates the challenge, but can create tough conditions for higher handicappers. Members have requested upgrades to some bunker complexes and improved drainage in a few lower spots prone to soft ground after rain.
