Course Report

The Club at Olde Stone has hosted prestigious events such as the PGA Junior Ryder Cup, USGA Girls Junior, Southern Amateur, and the Southern Junior Amateur tournaments.

About

The Club at Olde Stone is a private 18-hole course in Bowling Green, Kentucky, masterfully designed by Arthur Hills. The course offers a scenic blend of rolling hills, flatlands, native grasses, and significant elevation changes, with a reputation for championship conditioning and challenging play. Renowned for hosting prestigious tournaments, its Zoysia fairways and Bentgrass greens are notable for their quality.

Caddie Tip

Stay below the hole on approach shots—the greens are slick, undulating, and fast, making downhill putts treacherous. Carefully manage your club choice on the par 3s and beware the thick rough; accuracy is far more crucial than length from both tees and fairways. Local knowledge pays dividends, especially around deceptive landing areas.

The Main Challenge

The greatest challenge at Olde Stone is the dramatic vertical movement and penal rough, which combines to punish errant drives and misplaced approach shots. Greens are slick, tiered, and difficult to read, with tricky surrounds. Water and bunkers come into play on many holes. Scoring well requires strategy, ball control, and precise iron play.

The Good

Golfers rave about the spectacular conditioning, especially the Zoysia fairways and Bentgrass greens, which are consistently fast, smooth, and fair. The variation in terrain and holes—along with the friendly, attentive staff and excellent practice facilities—create a top-tier experience. Members consistently mention the engaging routing and scenic natural landscape as club highlights.

The Not So Good

Some players note the rough can be excessively penal, making play difficult for higher handicaps and slowing overall pace. A few mention that the challenging greens—while excellent—may feel unfair without local knowledge. Increased accessibility for non-members is often requested.
