Course Report
The course ascends to over 1,800 feet elevation, and many holes play alongside or above ski slopes renowned for winter sports, making it a unique four-season mountain resort destination.
About
Winding through the dramatic slopes of Spruce Peak beneath Mount Mansfield, this Bob Cupp-designed course is one of Vermont’s premier alpine golf destinations. Reserved for club members and overnight guests, it boasts bold elevation changes, rocky outcrops, and sweeping Green Mountain views. Opened in 2007, it is praised for its challenging layout, strategic shot values, and integration into the natural landscape.
Caddie Tip
Precision trumps power on this dramatic mountain layout. Pay special attention to elevation changes—approach shots require careful club selection as balls tend to fly further downhill and stop quickly when coming uphill. Watch out for swales on and around greens, and don’t underestimate the effect of swirling mountain winds.
The Main Challenge
The steep elevation changes and sloping fairways make club selection and stance control difficult. Most holes are carved through rocky outcrops and thick woods, demanding straight drives. Wind can swirl unpredictably. A handful of greens are heavily contoured, punishing mishits, and long approaches often require carrying native hazards or bunkers.
The Good
Golfers consistently praise the breathtaking Green Mountain scenery, especially from the elevated tees with panoramic views. Many love the adventure and variety provided by dramatic elevation shifts and the seamless integration with the region’s alpine setting, citing the sense of secluded immersion and unique challenge as highlights of every round.
The Not So Good
Many visitors note that the course’s mountain routing makes it challenging to walk, and some wish for more comprehensive practice facilities and on-course water stations. Conditions can vary depending on recent weather, particularly on lower holes susceptible to soggy patches after rain.
Signature Hole:
#
16
Hole 16, a par 4, stands out for its dramatic drop from an elevated tee and panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. The fairway sweeps along a ridge line with natural rock outcrops, offering a demanding landing area and an approach to a well-protected green. The views and challenge combine to make this a memorable highlight.
Clubhouse
Upscale clubhouse with locker rooms, well-stocked pro shop, full-service restaurant and bar, and scenic patio overlooking the finishing holes. There’s a welcoming lounge atmosphere suitable for gatherings, with dedicated guest and member services and direct access to resort amenities like pools and spa.
Practice Facilities
Expect a modern driving range, short-game chipping and putting greens, and lessons with PGA professionals. Facilities are convenient but may be limited compared to major resort destinations. Rental clubs are available, and the range uses quality balls on grass tees when weather permits.
