Course Report

TPC Michigan was the first course in Michigan and one of the first in the world to achieve Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Certification for ecological stewardship.

About

TPC Michigan, designed by Jack Nicklaus, is an exclusive private club in Dearborn featuring a stadium-style 18-hole layout known for its meticulous conditioning and strategic challenge. Built on land donated by Ford Motor Company, the course has hosted numerous top-level tournaments, including the Ford Senior Players Championship, and has been recognized for its environmental stewardship.

Caddie Tip

Position drives carefully to avoid deep fairway bunkers and favor conservative play on dogleg holes. The finishing stretch demands straight tee shots and thoughtful approaches; aim for the fat side of the greens to avoid tricky runoffs, especially on the 18th. Greens often break more than they appear.

The Main Challenge

TPC Michigan is most challenging from the tee, where water hazards and strategic bunkering threaten mishit drives. The finishing holes, particularly 16 through 18, require precise placement to set up approaches into demanding greens. Wind and firm greens add further complexity for all skill levels.

The Good

Golfers rave about the overall immaculate conditioning, challenging design, and strong tournament pedigree, particularly enjoying the Jack Nicklaus routing that demands strategy and shot-making. The championship history and exclusive club atmosphere add a sense of occasion and excitement to every round.

The Not So Good

Some players mention that rough can be penal in wet conditions, and slow play occasionally occurs during peak member times. The setting, though well-landscaped, lacks truly dramatic vistas, and the course can feel flat to those expecting a more scenic Michigan backdrop.
