Course Report

It is one of the northernmost golf courses in the United States, offering a chance to spot bald eagles, moose, and bears during your round.

About

Valley of the Eagles Golf Links is a 9-hole public course located along the scenic Chilkat River in Haines, Alaska. Opened in 2005 and designed by Mark Miller, the course features a links-style layout and offers a unique Alaskan golf experience surrounded by mountains and wildlife, with electric carts and a driving range available.

Caddie Tip

Pay attention to the prevailing winds from the river valley, as gusts can strongly affect ball flight on approach shots. The ground is often firm, with natural lies and little run-off, so play for some extra roll after landing. Stay alert for wildlife, and bring extra balls for the tall native grass rough.

The Main Challenge

The course's challenge comes from its natural lies, shifting river winds, and unpredictable ground conditions. Hazards are mostly from rough and native grasses rather than water or bunkers, demanding smart course management and careful shot placement.

The Good

Golfers love the truly unique setting, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Chilkat River, snow-capped peaks, and abundant wildlife. The atmosphere is welcoming and laid-back, and every round offers a memorable Alaskan experience hard to find elsewhere.

The Not So Good

Some players desire more detailed course maintenance, including tighter fairway lies and improved green surfaces. Local hazards such as wild grasses and uneven ground can also make conditions unpredictable at times.
