Course Report

The Riverside Course has hosted the 1990 U.S. Women's Open and underwent a full redesign by Tripp Davis in 2022, maintaining its reputation as one of Georgia’s premier courses.

About

Atlanta Athletic Club’s Riverside Course in Johns Creek is a private, championship-caliber layout originally designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., and most recently renovated by Tripp Davis in 2022. It weaves along the Chattahoochee River, offering immaculately maintained Zoysia fairways, Bentgrass greens, and strategic design variety. The course is a frequent tournament host, known for its beauty and challenge.

Caddie Tip

Club selection and accuracy are vital—many holes feature water hazards and tiered greens. Manage your approach shots carefully, especially on riverside holes, as missing on the short side can mean a very tough up-and-down or a lost ball.

The Main Challenge

The Riverside Course features strategic bunkering, water hazards on several holes, multi-tiered greens, and a demanding finishing stretch from the 15th onward. Accuracy and shot placement are essential, particularly in windy conditions or when pins are tucked behind hazards.

The Good

Golfers rave about the course’s serene setting along the Chattahoochee River, the thoughtful, recently updated layout, and the excellent conditioning of both fairways and greens. The finishing stretch is particularly memorable and challenging, making each round feel special and rewarding.

The Not So Good

Some members wish for improved drainage after heavy rains and occasionally note the rough can play extremely thick in the spring. Guest access is also limited due to private status, and slow play can be an issue during peak club events.

A truly memorable mid-length par 4 that highlights the tranquil, riverside setting.
