Course Report
Dye Fore features seven cliffside holes that drop nearly 300 feet to the Chavón River, creating some of the most spectacular views in Caribbean golf.
About
Dye Fore Golf Course at Casa de Campo is a Pete Dye-designed 27-hole layout perched atop dramatic cliffs above the Chavón River in La Romana. Opened in 2003, it is famed for its panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea, mountains, river, and marina. The course offers demanding shot values and stunning elevation changes, making it a highlight for resort guests seeking impressive scenery and championship-caliber golf.
Caddie Tip
Club selection is critical on cliffside holes due to swirling winds, especially on 12 and 15. Favor conservative targets on all risk-reward par 4s and par 5s, and aim for the center of greens to avoid severe runoffs. Trust your caddie’s local knowledge for reading deceptive breaks and understanding the wind’s effect from high tee boxes.
The Main Challenge
The toughest test at Dye Fore is contending with unpredictable wind across exposed cliffside holes. Players must also master significant elevation changes and forced carries, especially on the signature par 3s. The greens feature subtle undulations, demanding precision on approach shots and careful putting. Course management is key to scoring well.
The Good
Golfers are most enamored with the dramatic elevation changes, breathtaking 360-degree panoramic vistas, and the unique thrill of playing cliff-top holes overlooking the river and mountains. The challenging shot variety and visual drama make Dye Fore stand out, turning every round into a sightseeing experience paired with championship-caliber golf architecture.
The Not So Good
Players occasionally mention that the wind can make the course a bit too challenging for higher handicaps, and that some internal shuttling between the three nines can be confusing. Temp and maintenance consistency outside peak season is another concern, though generally minor.
Signature Hole:
#
15
Hole 15, a par 3, is perched on the cliff's edge, demanding a long carry over a 300-foot drop to the Chavón River below. Its green is exposed to swirling winds and breathtaking views, making it both a visual and strategic highlight. This hole is widely recognized for its dramatic appearance and challenge, epitomizing the Dye Fore experience.
Clubhouse
The clubhouse offers a pro shop, locker rooms, restaurants, lounges, and outdoor terraces with sweeping views. Onsite amenities also include a bar and full-service dining, making it both a golf hub and a welcoming place to relax post-round.
