Course Report
Scenes from the British TV series 'The Durrells' were filmed at Corfu Golf Club, including the cricket match sequences.
About
Corfu Golf & Country Club, designed by the acclaimed Swiss architect Donald Harradine in 1971, is nestled in the lush Ropa Valley. The 18-hole par 72 course harmoniously integrates natural streams, ponds, and mature tree groves, offering a scenic and strategic parkland experience suitable for all skill levels. Open year-round, the course is renowned for its welcoming atmosphere and mild climate.
Caddie Tip
Go for conservative tee shots on holes with water hazards, especially the par 3s like 16, where the wind can dramatically affect ball flight. Focus on club selection and landing areas, as the greens are known for subtle breaks and can be slick in warm weather. Walking the course is enjoyable and allows better strategic planning.
The Main Challenge
The toughest challenge is negotiating the water hazards, especially on approach shots to several greens. Holes 7, 10, and 16 test precision and nerve; the finishing stretch rewards shot placement and strategic course management in prevailing winds.
The Good
Golfers praise the natural beauty and tranquil setting of the Ropa Valley, surrounded by water features and lush vegetation. The course offers a welcoming feel, enjoyable routing, and variety suited for both beginners and advanced players, making every round pleasant and memorable for visitors.
The Not So Good
Some golfers note that infrastructure and maintenance of fairways and bunkers can lag behind leading European courses, particularly in dry periods. Tee areas and cart paths sometimes need attention, and pace of play can slow during busy afternoons or events.
Signature Hole:
#
16
Hole 16 is a par 3 of 205 yards that demands a long carry over water to a steeply sloping green. Frequently playing into a prevailing wind, this hole combines natural hazards, strategic challenge, and a picturesque setting, reminiscent of famous par threes and considered the course’s most memorable test.
Clubhouse
Amenities include a stone and wood clubhouse with restaurant, locker rooms, pro shop, bar, credit card acceptance, and event facilities. The restaurant serves meals, drinks, and snacks daily, and the clubhouse hosts weddings and social events for visitors and members.
Practice Facilities
The club features a driving range, chipping and putting greens, and modern instruction services. Golfers can access practice balls, lessons, and short-game areas year-round, though limited space can occur during busy months or tournaments.
