Course Report

Golfbaan Stippelberg was recognized with the 'Golf Inc. Development of the Year Award' in 2011 and is built on former heathland, restored to mimic the historical terrain.

About

Golfbaan Stippelberg, established in 2011 and designed by Michiel van der Vaart, Philip Spogaard, and Gerard Jol, is a heathland-style public course set amid the sand dunes and water features near Gemert-Bakel. The 18-hole championship layout and its executive course offer a blend of bold bunkering and natural shaping inspired by classic UK heathlands, with a modern Dutch twist.

Caddie Tip

Pay close attention to wind direction when playing the opening stretch—two of the first three holes are par 3s with severe green contours that can quickly lead to three-putts. On the back nine, water hazards are visually intimidating but play smart and lay up where appropriate. The island green on 9 rewards strategic play over aggression.

The Main Challenge

The course’s most demanding element is the interplay between strategic bunkering and water hazards, especially on the inward nine. Multiple holes feature undulating greens and forced carries, while the exposed setting increases the course’s defense in windy conditions. Smart course management and conservative tee-shot placement are crucial to scoring.

The Good

Golfers consistently praise the natural beauty and thoughtful integration of the course into restored heathland, with bold, visually dynamic bunkers and interesting green complexes. The routing offers strong variety, memorable par 3s, and water features that enhance both aesthetics and challenge, providing a compelling and enjoyable experience for a wide range of abilities.

The Not So Good

Some guests wish for greater year-round consistency in fairway conditioning and feel greens could run more true after rain. The relatively young age of the course means tree lines and roughs are still maturing, and some prefer a wider maintenance collar around the many extensive bunkers to better define play lines.

Signature Hole:

#

9

No items found.

Hole 9 is a short par 4 featuring an island green, demanding both precision and nerve. Accuracy off the tee is crucial; big hitters are tempted to challenge the water in pursuit of the green. Its unique design and risk-reward options make it the course’s most memorable and photographed hole.

Clubhouse

No items found.

Modern clubhouse featuring a well-stocked pro shop, locker rooms, rental equipment, and a brasserie serving regional and seasonal dishes. The terrace overlooks the course with a view of the water, and visitors enjoy a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.

Practice Facilities

No items found.

Comprehensive practice area includes a full driving range, a chipping and pitching green, as well as a dedicated putting green. The site also features an 'Aqua Range' where players can practice shots over water. Instruction and junior coaching available at Golfschool Stippelberg.
