Course Report

Heron Glen was transformed from the historic Kuster Farm and has won the National Golf Foundation’s Customer Loyalty Award for maintaining extremely high player satisfaction.

About

Heron Glen Golf Course, designed by Daniel J. Schlegel and opened in 2002, is a public 18-hole, par 72 championship layout in Ringoes, New Jersey. Featuring bentgrass tees, fairways, and greens, the course is set through the rolling hills of Hunterdon County, offering five sets of tees for all skill levels. Known for its excellent conditioning and scenic views.

Caddie Tip

Heron Glen rewards accuracy off the tee, especially on narrow holes like the fourth, where left is out-of-bounds and right is bunkered. Use conservative lines on riskier holes, and keep approach shots below the hole, as the large, undulating bentgrass greens make for tricky putting if above the cup.

The Main Challenge

The course’s toughest stretch comes in the closing holes, particularly the long par 4 eighteenth, which requires precision playing into the prevailing wind and dodging ponds on the left. Several holes incorporate narrow landing areas, deep bunkers, and multi-tiered greens that test strategy and ball control throughout the round.

The Good

Golfers love Heron Glen’s championship-caliber design and picturesque rolling landscape, especially the variety offered by multiple tee boxes and the consistently excellent bentgrass conditions. The overall experience—from practice facility to finishing stretch—receives praise for its playability and hospitality.

The Not So Good

Some golfers wish for slightly faster greens and additional on-course amenities, such as more rest areas and water stations during summer. Occasional maintenance on bunkers and rough areas during rainy periods can affect consistency, but overall issues are minor compared to state averages.
