Course Report

Shadow Glen was named “Best New Private Course in America” by Golf Digest in 1990 and was ranked among America’s Top 100 courses in 1995-96.

About

Shadow Glen Golf Club in Olathe, Kansas is an award-winning private course designed by Tom Watson, Tom Weiskopf, and Jay Morrish. Opened in 1989, the course flows over hilly terrain with fairways routed along rocky ridges and through wooded valleys. It is known for its variety, strategic holes, and beautiful natural setting.

Caddie Tip

Focus on accurate placement from the tee, as Shadow Glen features hilly terrain and strategic bunkering that challenge drives on several holes. Approach shots demand solid club selection due to elevation changes and well-protected greens, especially when the wind picks up. Missing in the right spots can avoid double bogeys.

The Main Challenge

The toughest part of Shadow Glen is managing the demanding tee shots and elevation changes, especially on the back nine. The course rewards strategic play and penalizes errant shots, with several greens protected by creeks or deep bunkers. Wind and elevation can further complicate club selection.

The Good

Golfers love Shadow Glen’s strategic design, which offers a mix of risk-reward opportunities due to varied elevation, natural rock outcroppings, and mature trees. The setting is tranquil and the course rarely feels crowded, thanks to limited memberships and a relaxed tee time system.

The Not So Good

Members sometimes remark that views of nearby housing on a few holes can detract from the sense of seclusion. During high summer, heat can quickly dry out some exposed areas, impacting turf consistency between fairways and rough.

Signature Hole:

#

13

No items found.

Hole 13 is a memorable par 4 measuring 477 yards, where Cedar Creek curls in front of the green. A scenic approach over the creek to a well-protected green demands precision and rewards bold play. The natural beauty of the creek and the challenge make this one of Shadow Glen’s most beloved holes.

Clubhouse

No items found.

The recently remodeled clubhouse features dining with scenic views, a four-sided fireplace, multiple banquet and meeting rooms, locker rooms, and a full-service pro shop. Social members enjoy access to all dining and event spaces. The club regularly hosts special events and celebrations for members.

Practice Facilities

Shadow Glen offers a comprehensive practice area featuring a 350-yard driving range with large Zoysia tees and 8 acres dedicated to practice, including 12,000 square feet of practice greens. The indoor Learning Center provides year-round hitting bays with technology for lessons and club fitting.
